how do you know when a male cherry shrimp is ready to mate?

I guess when they reach abouot 1/2" they are sexually mature. But i don't know how to tell when they are "in the mood" LOL

ah...i see....and they will only mate when the female just mote right?

hmmm, i think they mate whenever the female has a good saddle going. Typically the female will molt just before berrying.

how do you define a good saddle?

a nice "patch", you can see the eggs inside of it, its pretty neat really. Are you having trouble with a saddled female? Or just anticipating your first babies?

no...all my females have saddle, just no berried yet, its been 3 months now...so kinda worry...

does male have saddles too?

no, males do not have a saddle. The saddle is their ovaries. What are you feeding?

i feed them hikari algae wafers, hikari flakes.

and you are sure you have males as well? I might be tempted to drop in the occasional protein type food, like a sinking wafer or shrimp pellet.
