male or female?

yeh most people say male and thats what im hoping for. on second thoughts i think i will get him a female if it is male, i want a pair can i get away with 2 in a 55 gallon?
If I had that fish planning to breed I would seriously look for a male.
Females almost look like males. But if you look at Mike D's avatar you will see the blue spots that cover the entire body with defined spots on cheeks.
Females have less spots towards their rear body along with more blotchy blue on their cheeks.
My female dempsey's fins are pointed and longer than her tail fin, while the male fins are rounded and shorter. And I'm not confused, I watched them court and spawn.
You are in luck if it is a female, females are harder to find than males.
