mandarin goby?????

My buddy has kept his for the past 2 years in 10g mainly eating flake food with occasional brine. Text book says they will only eat pods, but that is not 100% accurate.
mine are also eating Prime Reef flakes! I give the tank a pinch or so every day, crumble it in my hand first and then put my fist in the tank and sort of flick it out so it all goes everywhere including down to the bottom. The Scooter Blenny is especially enthusiastic about his flakes. I've seen the spotted guy eat them too, but he still gets more excited about the frozen foods. OH and cyclops, they like that a lot too. I have the flaky type.
Personally, I wouldn't buy one already that large, but mostly because I like to raise my fish and watch them grow. But if you want it, ask the store what they feed him and to feed him while you watch and see what he eats.
All that said, I still like having all the critters in the tank for them to eat as well, and I will continue to buy some periodically. Especially now that I found that ebay source.

my scooter likes the flakes as well but loves his brine and mysis and pellets....
my green clown goby(which is actually white w/red stripes for some reason) only eats pellets and my yellow clown eats flakes and pellets and mysis....
i may try to order a spotted or target but im not sure......ill have to do some more research before i try one....

Hindsight is a wonderful thing!
I certainly wouldn't try adding a mandarin in a 30gal that already houses a scooter. Both are dragonets and both eat pods.
I'm also going to have to disagree with reefscape to a certain level. A 30 gal is fine if your willing to top it off with pods on a weekly basis but I'd recommend a minimum of 55 gals with 50llbs of live rock, this will help support the pod population. Whilst there are dragonets that will take frozen/dried foods there is not enough nutritional to sustain them long term.

i have a male and female mandarin i added pods for about 5 weeks to my tank from ebay and i have a fuge. they are both thriving! i plan on topping up pods every month even though at night my tank is crawling with them!
i would rather be safe than sorry and adding bottles of pods puts my mind at rest.

That's how I did mine as well, just to make sure and be on the safe side:grinyes:
that's what I do too. I'm still happy that they eat prepared foods as well, but I'll continue to put in pods for them about once a month just because it makes me feel better. The Scooter is a little pig for frozen food though. He is quite the beggar.
i completely agree here. especially about the 30g not being suitable to sustain both a mandarin and a scooter. this would be a very bad idea and i seriously hope you do not get the mandarin. i also do not think the mandarin would be a great tankmate with the damsels.
