Mantis shrimp spotted....

How exciting! We are going to keep it, just need to get ahold of a small all in one for the kitchen counter

I was thinking about it because I would like to give my mantis a bigger home when I get back to Detroit, he's a larger species. A 10 Gallon tank ($12), 10# of live sand ($20). A nice piece of live rock ($20), a powerhead such as a Hydor ($20), a heater ($15) and a top ($20) is all you need. No light required, just daylight from the windows would suffice. You're talking $120 to keep the lil guy. Like I said, I spent $40 on my small species so you're ahead of me!

My current mantis I spent like $60 I think, rofl.

well I have cycled rock from my 90 that i just took down, more than enough rock in my current system, already have bags and bags of sand, and im sure that i have enough bits and pieces laying around that i wont have to buy anything but the tank.

cleaned up the sump a little to make it easier to see Manty, but ever since then we haven't heard or seen him :(

Time for Mr mantis to go. He has ripped the claw off my porcelain crab, lucky she survived! Her, my mandarin, the remaining the remaining snails and the cucumber have all fled over into the skimmer chamber.

I put an inverted bottle trap where mantis usually hangs out, he's very bold and won't run from movement outside the tank. He's probably about 2 inches long and a slate blue grey color.

I'm really surprised that's all the damage that was done. If he gets hungry enough, he will get over into the other chamber where the food is.

I would be surprised if you catch him without a baited trap (small crab) unless you take all the rocks out and he/she is in one of them.

Good luck!
