Mantis shrimp spotted....

I'm really surprised that's all the damage that was done. If he gets hungry enough, he will get over into the other chamber where the food is.

I would be surprised if you catch him without a baited trap (small crab) unless you take all the rocks out and he/she is in one of them.

Good luck!

I baited the trap with a chunk on shrimp and it wasn't interested. Would a sacraficial crab/snail be better?

Easiest way is find what rock he is using as a home and remove it. The mantis will more than likely hide on that rock and you can place the rock in a separate tank. It more than likely will not kill fish, but inverts is an easy prey! There are a few tricks on how people catch them using DIY traps. I would link some up for you but I don't have time :(

Agreed with the rock removal but if that isn't an option then yes a live crab (sally light foot, emerald, etc.) should do the trick. I know it sucks to do that.

I'm pretty certain I saw him darting around the skimmer chamber this morning, which will make it much much easier to get him out. Just need to wait until I get my Fluval Flora for my betta and then the crab can go in the 5gal minibow. *Starts the music for musical tanks*

Would anyone like this shrimp? Decided another tank isn't a good idea at the moment. Pay shipping and he's yours.

So saw the shrimp today.... Poked his den with a stick and was able to lure him out. He's 3-4 inches and a pale slightly shimmery green.

CAUGHT HIM!!!
We were sitting and watching tv and I saw it in a hole in a top rock. Bf grabbed a bucket and a stick and I held the rock over the bucket and he flicked him out.

It's now in a 2 qt jar with some rubble until we figure out what to do with him.
