I just went to a local florist to buy this stuff(couldn't find it at Hobby Lobby). I got two branches for $50. They don't look anything like your pieces. These are way more branchy(is that a word?) and still have the bark on them. I cut up one and put it in my girlfriend's 10 gallon. It looks pretty good. I'll have to take pictures and post it on here.
Here's the tank where I added the manzanita branches. I was going for a wooded forest feel. It's not as thick as I would like it; but I have noticed that it's tricky doing gravel vacs, so I haven't figured out how to make it thicker. I'll try to get a picture up of one of the branches. I bought two of them and they were about 2 1/2 feet long by 1 foot wide. I used less than one for this 10 gallon tank.
Thats a really nice looking tank, and unique idea. I bet it is tough to vacuum it. A semi-lawn between the trees would look awesome.
The sticks are nice too. They are leggier and definitely darker than mine.
It's a dp tank, and I wanted something to break it up so they could establish their own territories. Right now the branches are dark because they still have bark on them. I'm not sure how long it takes before it falls off, but it's been 3 weeks. I agree that something like hairgrass would look really nice. I hoped the anachris would create a canopy. I need to pull it up to the top more. It would be nice if I didn't have to gravel vac, but the dwarf puffers and the bn pleco create a lot of waste.
Vacuuming might not be necessary if you increase the plant mass. I have a DP tank, and they are kind of messy. I'm with Mg on vacuuming planted tanks. I rarely ever bother.
I've seen trees made from moss on the tops of sticks. You could try that I guess.
That really is a great idea for a tank you have. Please post the progress when you can.
