Okay, so I just got done reading the "Balls" thread. It was funny, but I didn't see an answer to the questions I have about Marimo moss:

1) From everything I've read, the spherical form comes from the moss rolling across the bottom of tanks. If a moss group is left without current, will it flatten out?

2) Has anyone tried flattening out Marimo to the point of a blanket? I know you can 'scape with the stuff, but does that require cutting it open and typing to driftwood/rocks like you would with say, JMoss or JFern?

3) I have a Marimo clump already, and I love it. Everyone comments on it, but I noticed that the clump grew a little "rabbit's foot" off of one side. I've clipped the "foot," and it now lives in the same tank as the original (which shows no signs of damage from the cutting). Will the "foot" also grow into a clump?

Sorry for the newbie questions, but I'm not used to GROWING algae, I'm used to killing it.

.
I got my hubby a set of four balls for his birthday and they were fabulous when we put them in but two of them exploded in the following two weeks and another is starting to open up no matter how often we smoosh it back together. The fourth is still round and beautiful but is growing a "foot" as well. We put some of the exploded bits in my tank and also left a bunch in hubby's tank so I'm hoping they'll grow out (too many can go to lfs in trade, right?) but they're really easy to suck up with the Python! :o
