Does anyone know of a new fish store in Charlotte with Saltwater fish 4 sale? Also does anyone know where I can find a tank 200-250 gallons? I have a 125 but looking for bigger for shark. Maybe even if you know an affordable builder in this area. Thanks...

Depending on what part of Charlotte you live in you have some great choices.

Fintastics is off Hwy 49 near the 485 interchange, it'll be on the left if you come from 485.

Fintastics is a very good place to visit and look but they are just expensive you could not buy everything you need there.

I have never been to Frank and Peg's but I havent heard much good stuff.

I go to Nemo Fish alot, they ordered me a tank, came to my house and set up everything for free. If your looking to set up a tank I'd go to Nemo Fish they sell you the tank for what they get for wholesale pricing and their fish are basically wholesale pricing. 6$ a LB for LR.

Hi, I'm in Charlotte.

First, I highly encourage you to stop by www.rasoc.org which is the website for the Charlotte reef club. In addition to getting lots of good local advice there you'll also be able to buy used equipment and make trades and such for frags (open to members). We also have a library and more.

On to local stores I recommend. Fintastics is the largest but also can be pricey. Petland at the Arboretum tends to have healthy stock. Coral Dynamics is fantastic if you're after corals. NemoFish is new and they have good prices. Do your research before buying though as they do tend to carry some stock that many would say are not suited for home aquaria. In fact though we should research before buying anywhere shouldn't we? There are a few others that I've heard good things about but I've not yet been to. They include Fins and Critters, Dav's Sea Creatures, etc. There are only 2 local stores that I will NOT buy from and if you PM I'll give you the names.

Can you expand on the Nemo carries stock that isnt suited for home aquaria, I visited them and they seemed to carry healthy fine fish.

I signed up for Rasoc.org but they didnt seem to be so friendly there.

I'm surprised you had that experience at the website for the club. They were friendly to me from day one with even the most newbie of questions. I encourage you to try again and if I see your post I'll try to comment as well.

Regarding your question, they like to carry unusual or rare species. That is great in some cases, but in others it means selling something that is typically regarded as expert only or even dismal rates of success for even experts. The elegance coral for instance, although it was once considered a hardy beginner coral it has fallen in decline and has been overcollected. Some of what is now being found in parts of the world is having better reviews but much of it is still not recommended for home aquaria. Yet..some stores will still sell it and not say a word to the purchaser. Don't get me wrong, the brothers that own Nemo are nice guys. I like them, I'm just cautious about making sure I'm super informed before buying anything which is not typically found elsewhere in the city. Which as I said earlier is a good rule of thumb before buying anywhere.

I never posted at Rasoc.Org, I just noticed that alot of people act like jerks sometimes and it didnt seem very active.

Oh well, Nemo tried to tell me everything they could about things I was interested in, I saw they carried a Pinnatus Batfish, I've heard it was hard to take care of, they told me that and fed him for me, He ate like a champ they seem to know what they are doing with some of the rare species. We all should be super informed by what species we buy, rare or not, the species they bring in is the species you should learn about if you are buying, not complain about them if your not buying it. Right?

Hmm, I'm not complaining about them. I said I felt they sold some species that are better left off in the ocean however. They are also a Rasoc sponsor and a welcome one. Sorry you've had a negative experience at the site, not sure what you ran into but I've not seen any of that behavior. Best of wishes to you as you discover stores around the city.
