I have a Marineland Model 4 sump and those spinning Bio Wheels keep coming off the little hinge and floating, so I have to turn off my pumps, take out all the filter trays and put it back. Sometimes I will put it all back together and turn the pumps on and it will spin and then float again!

Anybody have any idea why this keeps happening and maybe have experienced the same thing. Any suggestions to keep them on. I thought about rubber bands around the ends, but they would eventually deteriorate.

I am not familiar with that set up... But I'd assume the wheels are floating because the water is not flowing through fast enough, or the amount of flow is too great for the size of the wheel...

rubber bands wouldn't deteriorate too quickly in freshwater. i had a modified filter intake held together with a rubber band and it took a good few months before wear and tear showed up and i had to change it.

did you buy this sump new or used? maybe there are supposed to be clips or something that hold the biowheels in their places and the clips are broken?

The manual for them doesn't show any retaining clips...which would make me believe your water level gets to high and floats them out....

I have one myself although I'm not currently using it. Bob is on the money, it happened to me once when I overfilled it.

this very well might be a possibility. They didn't give me a water level that is suggested, but they told me to fill my sump to about 1" from the top at max fill before I turn the pumps on. When I do this in my 210, the water level does not fall much below the top of the bio wheels.

Not sure what your plumbing set up is...but sounds your flow isn't balanced..too much overflow to the sump...too little return pump volume...or valves not adjusted correctly.

yes you have to much water in your wet/dry sump reduce the water and your bio wheels wont keep floating off.
