At first the Mag 350 was great...... but it was loud, didn't hold much media and I kept having to open it up every week or so. I finally got fed up and sold it in favor of the new C-160 (this was when they were more or less new). The only thing I regret is the fact that it could polish water like nobodies business.
That said, the C series is far far far easier to maintain, and you can get close to the same performance with quilt batting in the 3rd/4th basket (about 4 layers).
Oh don't get me wrong, Im just tired of repeating myself about circumference filter technology being superior and thought I would present you with the big IF, as in IF you decided to pick the lesser filter and not the Magnum 350. The Magnum 350 is a superior filter for all the reasons I have previously mentioned in my other post that you have already read like a corvette vs a Saturn IMO. The FX5 on the other hand is just plain awesome like a jet fighter VS Saturn.
ac110's great performance/power/waterflow at great price level (kens) & ease of maintenance. I run 2 on my 72g BF juvie discus tank with one DIY pvc extended tee intake tube to suck up the bottom & the other the double intake tubes to cover mid level filtering. gave up on my fluval & sworn off canisters (1st off too pricey, some have parts probs, & maintenance a pain, IMHO).
I agree save some $ at least. good luck.
Just a little facetious humor, don't take me too seriously here, what important is that the filter works well enough to do the job. they all work just to varying degrees. Actually when it comes to looks the ford Edsel an advanced high performance car for its time, was unpopular for being so ugly. In ugliness the Magnum 350 winds top prize.
