Marineland Penguin Powerhead 1140

I currently have two of these powerheads running in my tank and I'm finding that they are putting out a very direct stream and I'm getting a good bit of sand shifting and wavy lines, but also areas that are not getting nearly as much movement as they should.

Is there something that I can attach to the powerheads to get a more directional or adjustable stream? These puppies are rated for 300gph each. They come with a flat piece that attaches to the output, but it really doesn't do anything except push the water up or down. If I push it up it moves the sand on one side of the tank and if I point it down it moves the sand on the other. ARGH!!

I had thought about a wave maker, but then I would have the same problems, just it would run on intervals instead of constant. I was thinking of an attachment to the output or even a mod to the existing reflector.

Hydor makes FLO rotating water deflectors. They are ok, but do restrict the water flow some.

Where are you in SC? If you're close to Columbia, I could let you borrow 1 of ours to try it and/or give you a good deal on 1 or 2 used ones.

I know people do mods on the MJs, so perhaps the same would work for yours? Personally I'm just going to upgrade to the Koralias and use the MJs in the salt mixing bin.

We have one on our fw setup, the diffuser paddle also rotates and moves up and down.......:idea:

I found that while trying to find an answer to my question. I was about to ask about them.

I appreciate the offer, but I'm actually just south of Charlotte...in fact, it would probably be more realistic to put Charlotte. I'm in the Ft. Mill area of SC.
