:help:i noticed the other day some new maroon algae growing on some of my rocks... today i noticed it had spread all over the rocks in the tank. is this good or bad? is it coralline? there is no new purple or any other color growth just maroon... pics to follow..:help:

sounds like cyanobacteria

I have maroon coraline, and I have maroon sponge. I've also seen maroon algae and yes maroon cyanobacteria.

In addition to what PP asked I'd add is it hard and difficult to scrape off? Is it rubbery feeling but stays attached to the rock, not coming off like slime?

I don't think that coralline would spread that fast. The only thing that I know that spreads all over the tank in a matter of days is cyano.

I would recommend more flow or redirected flow towards the spots where it's growing.

Also, do you use ro/di water? If not, this is a good indication that you should. :)

water:
i use nuclear grade "a" de-ionized water, i mix it with reef crystals salt.

the maroon stuff is easy to scrape off the rocks and seems to have a slime apperance. it seems to have really started growing when i added my MH light canopy. i really didn't notice it when i was using only PC lights. also some of my purple coralline is turning white...

water flo:

i just added 2 seio m620 power heads that run continously in addition to my 3 maxi 1200s. my main water circulation pump is the reeflo dart 1/8 hp and about 1600 gph. over all i would say i have about 3600 gph turnover in the tank. (150gal)
