So I was at my local Big Al's with my G/F over the weekend, and we were at awe at this place, MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF TANKS EVERYWHERE.
There was an eel/shark tank in the bank, 1500 somthin gallons, quite impressive.
But, the most interesting thing tho, was the cichlid tank. I think it was in the area of 1000 gallons or so, they had big big loaches, big big africans, etc etc.
However, hiding somewhat in the corner of this tank was by far the biggest cory cat we have EVER seen. I mean HUGE.
at least....2 feet long, I swear. And just as wide.
So, that begs the question, if given the chance, how big can cory's get.
I mean, take your average pleco, they can get BIG. And old.
So, being catfish, could cories do the same?
Man, of all the times I wish I had a digital camera, lol.
BTW, The claim to fame was "we dare anyone to beat our prices", well, the LFS I frequent has WAY lower prices, granted not the same selection, however, the point still remains.

There are many different kinds of catfish that look "like" cories.

Emerald cories are actually Brochis splendens and can reach 4-5".

I'm not so sure the "regular" cories get much bigger than they are.

Planetcatfish.com is pretty reliable and can be very generous with their sizings. And they don't list anything "large" for the most common cories.

A cory measuring in feet? I don't think so. I never owned, knew of anyone who owned or even read about a cory getting that large. It has got to be something else!

It might be a close relative but not what we think of when we think "cory"

Check out www.planetcatfish.com. They've got just about every catfish you can think of.

Yeah, they have massive amount of catfish there no doubt as I have searched before, but I think it would be easier for me to phone them, lol.
I will let everyone know if I can call, heh

Are you sure?

:) ive seen some cories about 2-4 inches big before..are you sure they are bigger than that?.. 4 inches is alot bigger than it may seem

oh yes, I know
it was BIG
I'm sure there is a bad joke here about 4 inches and are you sure thats not big enough.............OK time to drop that one, woooo

Anywho, I know I should have taken a pic, but I will phone them and ask

You must have been at the one on North Road by Lougheed mall, right? I go there quite often. I dunno wut the heck that fish is, but its crazy big. The sharks sell for $6000 each if you wanna buy them. The shark/eel tank is... i think he said... 25000 gallons. And the price tag is... i think $20000... plus another $10000 for the coral.

Yeah thats the store.
I wonder what they would feed it?
The only thing I didnt like about that store, well, 2 things
1. PRICE!! I always understood that Big Als was supposed to be lower in price then most places, well, I can tell ya that they were at LEAST 4-9 bucks more then the LFS around where I live, but hey, its no biggie.

2. Little to no service. Granted, I most likely wasnt going to buy anything, but not once did anyone come up to me or my g/f and ask if we needed help at all. If fact, I felt like we were more in the way then anything. ah well, its not like i am going to be going there often anyways
