Pygmy sunfish could also work well.

You don't really have to have a filter, you just have to do more frequent water changes without one.

i can adjust the flow of the filter, but if i have 1 or 2 live plants without a filter wouldnt the parameters change a bit?

by frequent water changes, you mean like 3 times a week or?

bettas do just fine with filters. it just takes them a few days to get used to it and build up their muscles. after being in those little cups they're not used to swimming, but they can do it just fine with enough space.

You could put in African Dwarf Frogs, but you would have to hand feed them bloodworms.

frogs....not really a fan of amphibians. i used to be heavily into turtles when i was younger. i had a painted turtle for a while, til i learned it was illegal to have them as pets!:nutkick:

i think betta is the way to do.i would consider putting some plants in with the shrimp otherwise the betta will make lunch of them

will do. i normally go with fake plants, so i'll try to find something with a bit of cover/hiding spots.

yeah... whisper filters are crap though.

I have a 5 gallon minibow with a whisper filter that works just fine keeps the water pretty clean am happy with it. I have a crowntail betta in there by himself he is a pretty big boy and is happy to have a tank by himself. He is pictured in my avatar although I recently changed out his silk plant to a green and fuscia one. Some will also add snails to the tank as well. Just have to keep the filter current pretty low since bettas don't like high current.

I have a whisper filter on one of my tanks and it has been running on it for years flawlessly and silently without a problem. I think these filters get a bad rap sometimes because some people have problems with them, but then again you can have a problem with any filter including some of the ones that are considered to be the best ones on the market.

yea, mine was running from September07 till February of this year and had one clog, very efficient filter for a smaller tank. i wouldn't get one for anything over 29 gallons.
