We are going to look at 135 gallon tank tomorrow..I am soo hopeing it is nice,I really wont it..But I have a few questions..
I heard alot about base rock..Where do I get base rock at?
Also sand.I have heard a lot of people use play sand and live sand together..I was wonderning if I can do that.Add the play sand and put the live sand on top.
The cost of setting up the 135 gallon is going to be alot I know so I am trying to figure out ways to cut that cost a bit.Like adding base rock and live rock together.
Also the tank has a 20 gallon over flow that filters the water and sends it back to the tank.So the question of power heads comes up now..I don't have power heads on my 28 and honesty know nothing about power heads so,,what would I need for a tank this size?

base rock can be bought from most stores u just have to see if urs carries it. as for the play sand never no dont use it..long threads on here on why not to plus it doesnt have the natural buffering cap as aragonite does.
for the over flow its...not quite sinking in a pic might help me...lol if u buy it give us a look

What do you plan on using the tank for? Fish only with live rock(FOWLR) or a reef with corals and inverts(anemones)?

1. A FOWLR won't need as much current. A 10 x turnover, 10 x your tank size = 1350gallons per hour. So with that you need a pump in your sump to push water back to your tank at approximately that rate...You can add Maxijets(i'm sure there are other brands)to the tank aswell in different areas to create a current aswell. Also you don't want "dead spots"(no moving water), as this will give ample opportunity for algae's to accumulate.

2. If you want a reef set up you need at least 25 x turnover, 25 x 135g = 3375 gallons per hour. So all the above statement applies to this aswell. It just means more powerfull pumps and jets...

This info is mainly from what I've discovered on AC so do your research and it will help huge...

Any question is a good question...

Hope this helps...
