It's hard to see but it looks like it could be a male. I'm not to sure though.

hmm.. no. s/he has decided it wants to stay in the back corner, and i cant get another one. What are the things i should look for?
Male tend to have a much smaller tube. Very thing and usually more pointed even when not completely out.
Females tubes are quite wide and tend to be rounder.
I know that it can be hard to judge when you don't have a sample to compare to.

Ive always identified with fin lenght/shape. males have longer pointieranal and dorsal fins, whereas the females are shorter and rounder
fins aren't the best way to sex all cichlids.
With Severum, sex them by facial marking. Male has more markings than female.
