I read this article that says that white spot ALWAYS starts from the gills and my platy ONLY has them on hur tail
 
If I were you I would consider reading Dave's article in the article forum on ich. It is a great article and should help you out a lot. I woudl consider doing the ich salt treatment anyway as it can possibly also help with your fungus problem and shouldn't hurt things. Also it won't conflict with your current medication.
