i have a mbuna that has babies in her mouth.we used a divider in our 29 g aquarium to keep her safe from the other 4 cichlids we have..they were chasing her.my question is:is she ok to be away from the others?and also,we can see the babies in her mouth but she has not yet released them nor has she eaten in almost 17 days.should i worry or is this normal?

females usually hold fry for about 21-28days. She will eventaully spit when she is ready. Sometiems if the mom is getting very thin and sickly you can strip the fry but usually that isn't neccessary.
AS for the female being ok,it should be fine being away from the rest of the fish. YOu could possibly have a problem reintroducing the mom but rearanging the rocks or decorations should help with this. I have never had a problem

I never segregate my fish that are holding and they always do fine. By keeping her away from the others, you might help her conserve a bit of energy. That's good, since she won't eat 'til the fry have flown the coop.
She'll be fine. The mommas always look like heck near the end of their holding time. She'll recover and be catching the boys' eyes in no time.

you can remove her and put her in one of those floating breeder boxes in the tank.... if you want to save the fry. If she spits them in the tank she and the others will most likely eat them all.
Although, if they are hybrids, i would reccommend letting them be eaten.
