Mbunas and tangs?

IMO, no, you should not. Brevis and regani are pretty peaceful and will get beat up. They also have completely different dietary requirements compaired to Mbuna.

My personal stance has been that the two lakes should not be mixed... the fish have different behaviors, and the combination can lead to many problems.

I've had marlieri in with mbuna, no problems with aggression due to the fact that the tank was heavily stocked. Dietary issues, however, might be a problem. You will be either too short on the protein for the julies or too high on it for the mbuna. The latter would likely lead to the famous Malawi bloat. As far as the brevis go I think they would be too small for a mbuna tank.

My boyfriend keep regani, brevis, frontosa, lelupei, calvus, and brichardi in with a whole wack of Malawis (mostly haps). Its kind of his 'experiment' tank, but everyone is doing GREAT! They get fed mainly NLS which is good for all africans, so there is no issue with foods.

Have a look:

Surprisingly everyone gets along too.... ;)

Diana, he also has a lot more experience with rifties, doesn't he? :)

With Malawis... not Tangs ;)

It was kind of an experiment tank... he's separating them into two different tanks now, but not because it doesnt work, more for the 'keep it natural' aspect.

But, yes, I do reccommend you do a lot of research on the individual species before you mix them.... and be prepared for difficultly feeding them and possible aggression.
