Me & My White Cloud Mountain Minnows Need Some HELP!

i see. i checked on them both this morning and they seemed like they were fine so i decided to feed them a little bit. right after the feeding (which took place maybe 15 mins ago) it seems as though the little fish with the problems last night is now having problems again! any ideas as to what else I should do?

*update-- I have to go out right now but i'll come back with the necessary dechlorinator and what not. but, it seems as though my other healthier fish is starting to float a bit whereas the other fish was sinking... aaaaaaah.

I'd hold off on feedings until you can test the water for ammonia, nitrite, & nitrate. They won't starve in a day or two, and feeding will make an ammonia/nitrite/nitrate problem worse.

Let us know how they're doing after you get the dechlor in there.

hey thanks again. yeah, i actually bought the dechlor and some of that salt stuff and i drained some water from the base of the tank (the gross stuff using a siphon). then i added a 1/4 more water (dechlorinated) hoping that it'll help the fish. the little minnow seemed to have been doing better. however, after adding more water hes at the top again, struggling a bit.

i also tested the water levels and they seemed fine. the "hardness" was high though so I don't know how to fix that. hopefully with the salt the fish will get better in a day or so. but yeah, ill hold off from feeding them for now.

the fish seem really happy and are swimming all over the place now. seems like it worked. the little guy still sinks a bit though but hes always moving now so hopefully hell end up getting totally better.

Yay! Glad to hear it.

hey guys, just a quick update (instead of making a new thread).

i held off from feeding my fish for a day or 2 as the fish seemed effected by the food (fish flakes). i fed them yesterday (twice, morning and night) and the fish seemed fine. however, i fed the fish again this morning and an hour after the feeding you can definitely see the small fish "bouncing" in the tank, trying to stay afloat (swimming hard to maintain his resting position).

what's going on with the food situation? i don't think im overfeeding because im only releasing a small pinch of food (and the other minnow is bigger, usually eating most it). is this a digestive issue?

thanks.

If the fish is "bobbing", it's probably swim his/her swim bladder again...

Can you post the water parameters (from your test kit) just in case?

hey, the test kit was actually one of those color strip tests so it didn't provide any actual numbers. the fish seems fine rite now, hes just swimming around. i think i may just feed him once a day for the next few days and then try peas if he doesnt get better (for swim bladder).

im just surprised that swim bladder issues can come and go with feeding.

test strips are unreliable. you should get some liquid drop tests if you can. They will give you a much more accurate reading.
