Meet Moe the Musk Turtle!

I believe the shape of his shell is normal. All of the hatchlings at the LFS were like that. He just ate his first piece of Reptomin!

And Vicious, the water temp is right about there. :)

Sounds good. That turtle's shell is fine by the way. It will smooth out as it grows larger. And I'm glad to hear it's eating for you. Sometimes this species can be tricky to get to eat at this age.

I had to hand feed him in the water to get him to take it. He took on little stick, so hopefully that'll tide him over until later.

i love turtles and that one is awesome!!

Awwww! How precious! Thanks for sharing the pic!

congrats on the new addition - pretty baby. These really are great turtles.

In my experience musks the little guys really love to hide in vegetation and aren't prone to tearing it up like the basking turtles. Anacharis is good for hiding in, nibbling on and helps with water quality. My adults like to push moss balls around - they use to hide under them when they were small.

These turtles really like to feed off the bottom, when they were bitty and I needed to monitor food intake I had to find ways to get the food to sink - reptomin will sink but hold together if soaked in cool/cold water for 5 minutes or so before you feed it (warm water makes it turn mushy too fast) - they need to be underwater to swallow effectively.

These guys really really love snails - the little nuisance rice snails that LFS get in some tanks are often free for the taking (I use to clean the tanks of snails by hand at a few different places to get the snails for free when I needed huge quantities but most places will pick a bunch for you).

Just an idea - hard to get those hatchlings up and going - but once they get settled and started on a routine they are sturdy little tanks.
