Mega-Powerful Nitrate and Phosphate Remover Replaces Skimmer, Refugium, part 1-4

Well for starters I thought your "Directory" was for listing people who have built their own screens, not people who are quasi commercial builders.

It would be presumptuous of me to say I am a "screen builder". I haven't built one yet. However I recognize that someone might need some acrylic routed and I offer some help there.

Here are some other builds to give you more ideas:

Question:

The DIY bucket or sump scrubber is basically a level 1 project. Simple, free, easy DIY, and works great. Yes they are a bit large and ugly, but who cares. Level 2 are the acrylics. Self contained, small (only six inches or so thick), powerful, and nice looking. But they are so hard to make that only two people besides me have made them (and one of them I had to get made for him). I thought that since so many people made DIY sumps and tanks, many more would have made nice looking acrylics. Guess not. And only one person is on the builder list.

Well now I'm working on level 3. Ultra small (one inch thick), high light power, unbreakable, etc. Basically the same scrubbing power as a level 1 in a sump, but the size of a book. Problem is, they are impossible to DIY. So my question is, would anybody want to discuss the building of something that they can't build themselves?

Tell me more? The one thing I don't get is if this isn't a DIY type of project what is there to discuss? I'm game though, to talk about it.

That's the point. I like developing things, and I'll spend the money to make it, but nobody here could DIY it. It would have to be manufactured. So the point might be moot, since you don't want to talk about commercial stuff here anyways.

So the seahorse tank scrubber is up and running, Im hugely happy as after 6 weeks or so it is almost fully covered with a lovely felty growth. Ive topped up with rodi but its a month since I did a water change and its lovely and clear. Now im building the screen for the big tank, 350 gals. Aquarium lighting here is is prohibitively expensive, Ive ordered online from uk. While Im waiting for them to arrive, can I get up and running with two halogen floods I have spare? They are 150 watt. Im a bit concerned that they run too 'hot', but im keen to get the system going as I have to wait 14 days for the new lights.

I have had a bucket version running on my tank for approx. 1 - 1.5 months on my tank new tank. Prior to the scrubber I was running around 20 - 40 trates and .25 - .5 ammonia. After the scrubber all were zero. It was a new tank with no inhabitants. After seeing zeroes I thought it time to introduce some life, yeah! I put in 4 chromis, 3 peppermint shrimp, 5 redlegged hermits and 10 nass. After a week on life the numbers have climbed back up to 20 - 40 trates, Yikes! Is this normal for the scrubber to take time to acclimate to the new bioload? Btw, the tank is a 40 gal with approx. 8 gal sump and the scrubber is 9"w x 10"h single sided for now until I remember to buy another cliplight, although I am getting good growth on both sides. Am I correct in thinking that this is large enough?
