Mega-Powerful Nitrate and Phosphate Remover Replaces Skimmer, Refugium, part 1-4

Ok, now that you've gotten the lighting cost WAY down. What have you found to be the best material for the screen. I'm starting to plumb my 90 and figured I may as well get this hard plumbed in as well.

Seems like those under the counter light fixtures would be a good choice and then add in the grow light tubes. What's your take?

Update: Cross-cuts

Making cross-cuts in the slot is now recommended for all pipes. The biggest advantage of cross-cuts is that when algae grows up into the slot, a cross-cut will still allow water to flow out on top of the algae. Cross-cuts do require more flow, so if your pump/pipe combination is having trouble delivering the recommended 35 gph per inch of slot (53 lph/cm), then you might want to get more flow first. Start with one cross-cut every inch (2.5cm), and later try one every .5 inch (1.25cm):

That's a good idea. What about just shielding the the top inch of the screen so the algae doesn't grow there?

limantara that's great to hear. Keep cleaning the screen weekly, and see if you can get them down to zero.

Diver: Planted tanks are not a "yes" or a "no"; they are a variable. Some people have just a few small plants, but lots of fish. For them, a scrubber might be the answer, since there will be a lot of waste and C02. Others may have all plants and a few tiny fish. For them, like Pete said, a scrubber may remove too much C02 and nutrients. If you are in the middle, then you could try a cheap portable bucket scrubber, and if it doesn't work properly, throw it away.

As for seeding, you don't need to seed it in order for it to work. Just let it grow by itself. Don't get rid of it either; clean it and re-use it each week.

i should say my N already 0.... the last check is 12,5 ppm... but with the condition.. i run 2 a new coil denitrator which the output of nitrate are 100 (both of denitrator)

i just like a DIY hehe... so my new project will be LED
