Mega-Powerful Nitrate and Phosphate Remover Replaces Skimmer, Refugium, part 1-4

im currently builsing a scrubber for my new marine tank its gonna house big carnivorous fish and maybe a few easy corals . i have used on on a previous tank and it worked great but this time im doing things a little differant . i have a few questions for ya if u could please help.

im having 2 screens one each side of a tee (limeted for vertical space) should i clean both sides of one screen a week or one side of each screen a week??

also should i direct my fans at the screens to help with cooling my water during summer or would this not help the screens??
 
I built mine very similar, maybe I can help with your questions.

Your screens.. what I have done since it is a similar setup as yours, is I clean one screen, both sides on Wednesday and the other screen on Sunday. I also use velcro strips instead of zip ties to make it easier to remove and put back on.

I have a fan that blows across the screens, but the fan is connected to my Reefkeeper controller so it only comes on/off at certain temps, that was it doesn't cool the water too much and make the heater work more, with is more costly on the power bill. Although the 3x 42w CFL bulbs on it don't help with the bill either.

yeah i am subbed to ur thread ace awsome idea the way you have it set up , great idea with the velcro i actually brought some today to do a similar idea .

i noticed you heater is a eheim jager just a note these heaters are not coverd under warrentee unless vertical ! and they also dont work as well in my experiance
 
also do you guys reccomend having the ats lights on at night rather than the day to keep a leveler ph ?
 
I have been using Jager heaters for the past 16 years now and never had a problem so far other than the dial you set not being very accurate. I use a reefkeeper controller to handle the thermostat though. I also replace my heaters every 12 months anyway. But thanks for the info, never heard that tid bit about laying them sideways.

For lights.. if you can handle the bright light at night then ya, it can help a little with pH swing. I don't like the light all on night myself though so I go 6am-Midnight for my ATS lights.
 
my scrubber lights are on the exact opposite cycle of my 10k's. my PH is very stable. seems to work for me
 
Ace I saw your light setup... I'll save you some electricity... That design will not work because almost none of the light is getting to the screen; it's like the sun right before it sets on the horizon. You want the lights on the side of the screens, not the top, like the sun at noon. A single 23 bulb hanging in between your two screens will do more filtering than the three bulbs you have now. Get a new lid, and hang the bulbs down to the middle of the screens.

Clean one whole screen a week.

No fan needed for filtering.

Day or night does not matter for filtering.
 
I was going to mention that, But ace seems to ahve alot more experience than me in all things saltwater so I was gonna see how it went. :)
 
well ace my trust in jagers has just mulitiply , i have to admit 2 of mine are sideways too lol
