:huh: Hmm,is it really nessesary to take out the carbon?i mean...isnt carbon really good for fish?and if i take out the carbon,wont it get the fish sick or...anything?im clueless.Because you know,i have a empty filter cotton bag thing and maybe i can put it on top of my 20 gal eclipse filter/water area and light machine..I just threw away the long blue filter bag away and put a new small white rectangle cotton bag filled with new carbon....it seems you cant refill carbon onto the eclipse cotton bag...=(.. :mad: So yeah,should i?And,gahshh...the eclipse filter machine..it would make mechnical noise when i either open or close...but,if i were to place something a bit heavy on top,there would be no sound cept the water...this happens sometimes when i feed my fish...it really disturbs me...this eclipse is like about 3 months old.
 
The carbon is to remove chemicals from the water. If you are medicating the fish, you have to remove the carbon because the carbon will remove any meds you are adding to the water. You may as well throw your money down the toilet if you don't take out the carbon. When you are done medicating your fish you can put the carbon back in.
 
Ah,i see.....No wonder it takes alot of time for my silver dollars to recover fins,etc....Alright,just making sure..thanks alot...now i know. :dive:
 
Its about 7 days...so 7 days without carbon?
 
Carbon isn't all that beneficial to fish. Most people don't even use carbon except to remove meds and sometimes every other months to catch any build up of excess metals. Other than that its pretty worthless, it also only works about a week in your filter after that its just there.

...Bah,i need to learn more about fish,water,tank etc stuff...and yeah,im just wondering...can you like....refill the eclipse filter bag with carbon?Is there absolutely anyway?i eh..ripped it up..thought i can fill it back with carbon..but then i was like GAH!!and...threw it away and asked my dad about a filter bag.....then i used new carbon and used a new filter bag <- as i said....placed it up ontop...do you guys think its alright like that?it doesnt block the water getting to the bio-wheel and out...then i thought maybe i could buy a new eclipse filter bag with carbon at petco or something... :confused:
 
You DO NOT NEED carbon at all. here's what I do with my eclipse (fish healthy and breeding in this tank for over a year). Buy a fluval filter sponge and cut it to fit about 2/3 of the eclipse try. Put a small rock over it to keep it from floating. Put polyester filter fiber (Can get 100% plyester at wal-mart for cheap or pay 3x the amount in LFS) in your spare filter bag. Put this filter bag in the space not occupied by the sponge. Replace polyester at each water change, squeeze out sponge in dirty tank water and put back in filter.

NO MORE REPLACEMENT CARTRIDGES EVER!!! I figure it saved me around $50.00 in the last year.
 
Hm!i see.Hate to be so much trouble asking...but can you gimme a picture of the items needed?can you show me your eclipse on top?if you would..you dont really need to. :D
 
umm,mooman?i really agree with your idea and i think it would work perfectly for my fish..can you shoot up some pics of thoses equipments,here,please?or anyone that can provide me it?
