Need to treat my female Endlers fish for a patch of skin bacteria- obviously the Melafix is going to be harmful for cycle bacteria, right? So just wondering if there is an existing technique for a Melafix bath, or if someone has any other recommendations on using/not using the product. Please and THANK YOU!

I use Melafix in my tank every week as part of regular maint, and have never had a problem with the cycle. I only use about 1/4 the suggested therapeutic dose.

My biggest tinfoil (about 13inches now) jumped and hurt herself on the underside of the hood. I set up a Q tank for her and dosed it with Melafix, and didn't have any probs with the cycle for the 6 weeks she was in there, and I DID use the higher dose in that tank.

treating fish that are perfectly healthy is not recommened. There is no point, if you have proper stocking and water quality there is no reason for this. Plus if you dose regularly then when the fish do get sick, the disease will have grown resistant to the medicine and the medicine will not work....

Using a small dose of Melafix once a week will not make your fish less resistant. If you were constantly treating as recomended for certain diseases there might be a problem. The ingredients in Melafix and Primafix are natural and are known to not only prevent certain conditions, but also to help sooth sick or stressed fish. It is also recomended that you use it when introducing new fish as an added precaution.

Now, I'm for one a firm believer in prevention rather than intervention.

Why wait until you need to use real meds? Real meds are really stressfull and sometimes potentially deadly for sick fish. There seems to be alot more risk involved in the use of other medications than in the aplication of Melafix.

In my experience I have had so many more positive results with those products than with pharmasuticals.

OK fine you are right and i am wrong. all the leading aquarists go out and buy a bunch of medicines and dump them into their tank, they actually advise aginst this practice. To each their own...
