Melafix bad for bettas??

I don't know whats wrong with it thats what I'm trying to figure out 
! There is nothing in the tank besides him and the decorations that have been in there since I've had him. There is a large rock in the tank that is new, but I have the same one in my other two tanks and it has never caused a problem. The nitrite is 0, amo. is 0 and the ph is around 7.4 (stable) I am not sure about nitrate, I just realized my kit is expired. I do water changes, vac. always condition the water. I did buy a plastic reptile cave that I was told was safe for the tank, but I have since taken it out, that couldn't have been a problem could it? The only real change has been the melafix!

I have had similar problems. I have a male betta and the water parameters are completely fine. I don’t know why in the world his fins sometimes get messed up, to be honest I have had him for almost a year now, and he has never had perfect fins. When I treat him with Melafix, his fins just get worse. So I stopped the Melafix and just let him be the way he is. He eats fine; he is perfectly healthy as far as I can tell. I've never found out what it is that’s causing this; I thought I was the only person who had this problem.
