melafix for goldfish?

Would melafix help out a goldfish? I got a large goldfish from somebody who won him at a carnival, he doesnt look to good. Hes already ate, which is a good sign to me, but he doesnt look, well not "normal". Could somebody help me out, on how to heal him up, see how it looks sort of blue on his sides under his skin(?), what is that?
Heres a few pics, I didnt really sit and try to take the best pic, but I got a few decent ones that will show you what I mean by the bluish/black on his sides. I cannot get a pic without the flash lol, its always blurry. His left gill isnt looking to good at all.

Oh yeah, and he has a whole 20 gallon cycled tank to himself. I just got him tonight, so I'll wait a while, and hope he can clean up a little bit without meds.

yes you can use melafix and pimafix on goldfish. they work fine..

Is it possible that it is a shubunkin?

I was trying to google blue with goldfish and I came across a picture of a shubunkin goldfish with a lot of blue...

Also, the dark spot on the left gill cover, might just be a spot. The absence of a dark spot on the right gill cover MIGHT eliminate the chance that it is a disease that affects the gills, although, I could be wrong.

Wonderful looking goldfish. Congratulations on the new fish and I hope that it is normal and doesn't have an illness (or if it has an illness, that it is easily curable).

Many goldfish have gill flukes. Melafix won't do a thing for that. A lot of the people who keep goldies treat them all with Prazi while they are in qt.

Thanks for the links! That one from freshaquarium.about.com looks just like the blue on the little guy? how big do these guys get? I know somebody with a pond I could always put him in if he does get huge.

Some sites say 6-9", some say 8-10"... So I would say it could reach up to 12" somewhat like the comets.

Gotcha, well I havent done any treatment, as he's doing pretty good! I actually went on vacation for 4 nights, and I came back and he was still alive and acting normal, so I think I may have a disease free healthy carnival fish! =D i love goldfish, am I the only one that think of them as the perfect tropical fish? No agression, hardy, not shy, people friendly and beautiful! There needs to be a tropical goldfish!
