These guys are really neat; They skim along the water surface upside-down looking for food etc. I'd like to have some in my aquarium at home, but I haven't read much about these in aquariums. Many places say they're "fine for aquariums or watergardens", but I haven't really found too much information.

Isn't that just another name for the common pond snail?

Maybe? I've never seen them full-grown, or exhibit the behavior I saw in the pond. If it is, then I imagine that's why I haven't seen them specifically for sale in aquariums :P

Edit; Looks like they're some type of "giant" variety, like giant vs. tiny(read: free hitchhikers) ramshorns, I imagine.

They're related to common pond snails, just a larger species. However, "giant" ramshorns (Marisa cornuarietis) and common/European ramshorns (Planorbis corneus) are not related at all, being from entirely different genus.

Not in the same genus? They're not even in the same family.

So how big do these Melantho Snails get? I've always been quite fond of larger species of pond snails, like Lymnaea stagnalis.
