Mellow relaxing fish to watch

In my opinion Severums are quite peaceful and calming to watch. They just kind of float around, long trailers streaming behind, and aren't terribly aggressive at any time. I have 14, and I love watching them.;)

Hah, depends on the person I suppose. Personally, I find large schools of fish moving along very calming and beautiful - Fish like Cardinal Tetra. Some people find bigger, slower fish like Koi calming.

My personal dream tank would be a large school of neons, a few hatchet fish, a few plecos and a single crowntail Betta as a center piece.

I've seriously considered stocking my 75g with just neons and cardinals with a few cories thrown in.

Pearl gouramis, besides their awesome coloration, are also very slow and graceful. Sparkling gouramis are very calm, shy, and look quite delicate as they come out of a group of plants and make sure everything is safe. Honey gouramis are also quite soothing, although a little quirkier than the pearl or the sparkler.

I've found my emerald eye rasboras to school quite nicely. A shining wall of green eyes slowly moving around the tank is very nice. Minor glass cats are extremely slow and graceful. I don't think they can move faster. For a calming fish, they're near the top.

I think this situation calls for fancy goldfish, maybe fantails, lionheads, or orandas. Viewer relaxation is exactly what they were bred for, and you could keep a nice group of them in a big tank, especially that 125.
I totally agree. The most relaxing fish I've ever had, were long finned fancy goldfish.

If you're willing to go the extra mile and get a 240+ gallon tank (8x2x2 feet at least) you can house a silver or black arowana for life. If you have ever seen a 2+ foot silver or black arowana in person, you would be in love. Definitely calming to watch...until feeding time that is :D. The way they swim is jsut mesmorizing. They seem to jsut flow effortlessly with the water.

If you live in Canada or another country where asian aros are legal, you can get one of them! They grow to around 2 feet so you won't need such a big tank. Of course the farther down you go on my list of aros the more expensive they can get. :) Silvers are the cheapest and can range from 20-80 dollars depending on size and location. Blacks average 150-$300. Asian aros can start around 200 and reach as high as a few thousand dollars depending on the type and grade.

A nice sized school of rummy nosed tetras is so pretty and nice to watch.....
I too, sit at my tank in the morning w/ my coffee; who needs morning news anyway!

I agree. Rummynose tetras are really cool to watch as they school and swim through all of the plants. There is just something about them. I also like my brilliant rasboras for the same reasons. Of course my all time favorites for calming fish are angels and discus. They just seem to glide through the water effortlessly.
