Metal tank decorations? Affect water?

I'm going to try and do my sister's betta's tank in a Paris theme, and she has this little metal Eiffel Tower I was considering putting in the tank. I don't know what type of metal it is, it's a bunch of thin wires threaded and weaved together to make the Tower shape.

Is there a possibility this could hurt anything? Is it safe to put any type of metal in the water?

It's probably copper or steel wire/cast, a definate no-no in a tank.

I think it will be just fine, because it is made out of silica, which most sand is also made out of. I don't see a problem at all.
