My Minnie ( mickey mouse platy ) gave birth to about 50 fry last night - It was so awesome to get to actually see her give birth... something I will always remember !!!

So far I have only lost a few of them but they are doing really well ! :) Minnie is also doing well !

Just wanted to share my news!

Yes I know how to feed them hun :)

I called my LFS today and they said that they would be happy to take the ones that I do not want. I am going to wait a bit though because I want to see how many actually survive and all that.

Good Luck with your fry as well !!!

They told me they will take them at any age when ever I decided to bring them in... they lady I spoke with said they don't give store credit but that's ok with me :)

Eek, if they take them at any age I'd be worried they're using them as feeders for larger fish!

I bred sunburst platies for a couple of years and it was always lots of fun having the babies around!

wow, is 50 a normal litter (or whatever the proper term is) size? It seems like a lot to me, especially for livebearing fish.

best wishes to everyone's babies. I hope the store isn't going to feed them to other fishies :(

I thought about that too ( about the store using them as feeders ) so I am going to keep them at least til they are alot bigger - going today to get another tank ( ok im addicted ) to start cycling.

congrats!!
My platy had fry but i just notice them last week, there were only 5 of them. 1 died during a water change (That is so my fault!!) and 1 got sucked into the filter!
It is so much fun to watch them grow!

My platies are probably having kids all the time, but only one has ever survived. Actually, it's funny, since I call her Mini (though she's admittedly not very "mini" anymore, lol).

I don't take any special measures to help the fry along, since my tank is already kinda teetering on the brink of its stocking limit, but man, I am so attached to The One That Made It! I totally spazzed out on my boyfriend when I first saw her-- she was less than half a centimeter long, and I was thrilled! It was so much fun to watch Mini Platy grow through all the different stages, it would be really cool to be able to keep a whole whack of them like that. :)
