I have a 25 gallon fish tank, and in July I acquired 2 Gold Platys, and 2 Mickey Mouse Platys. I now have 15 of them! They have been having one to three babies every month! They are beautiful orange colored fish with cute little "mickey mouse" black markings on the tails. They are peaceful and get along with all the (few) other fish, which has been nice. I had no idea they would reproduce, and my tank is getting crowded! Honestly, I want to give some away but I don't want to give them back to the pet store. I live in the metro Atlanta area. Any suggestions? Thanks!:help:

Try the Classified Ads folder and include Atlanta and platy in the ad title. Say you only want to give away whatever number and for local pickup only. I'm sure there are people near you that would love some platies.

The chain fish stores all have their supply lines rigidly in place and probably won't take them anyway.

Some thoughts:

1) Post in the classified section here on AC offering "Free Platys in Atlanta area".
2) have any mom-n-pop fish stores? they MIGHT trade ya for store credit.
3) Check into a local fish club aka aquarium society. not everyone in those clubs is into expensive fancy fish...maybe you can give them away or even trade 'em.
4) give away at work/church/etc to (hopefully) responsible owners.
5) same as#1, but consider shipping them.
6) Post on Craigslist in the free section...

Knowing MY Platys, they'll soon be having way MORE than 1-3 per month, tho some may be getting eaten or sucked up the filter.

I have a big mass of java moss in my fry tank, 3 mommas live in there too, and the tiny ones hide in the Java Moss. I regularly see new lots of ~8 or more in my fry tank...hard to count when they are hiding. From 5 Platys to over 80 in about 9 months and growing.

you could try getting a fmaily member involved in the hobby :D
:iagree: :D

Always helps to get financial support for the hobby.:grinyes: Besides, this greatly helps to make an excuse for another tank and possibly even larger.:)

:welcome: to AC!

I was thinking give the gift of fish for Christmas. :grinyes: However, I've asked several of my relatives and none of them have been interested in getting fish. :headshake2:

what about gettin something into ur tank to help eat the babys? i've heard lots of people on here with the same problem, not sure off my head what some ideas would be but i'm sure someone can help you out with that, not saying thats what you should do but just another idea.

I live in warner robins ga, and have room still in my 55gal, and already have a red and a white micky mouse

Why not? Besides, the 25 gallons seem to contain only the platies (is it really only platies? and if you don't want the fry anytime soon), there is still space for some diamond tetras who can wipe the fry out.;)
