My midas just killed all of my african cichlids. (big surprise there but no one would take my africans off my hands) can a JD coexist with a midas at all in a 75gal aquarium? and if not, what fish can?

I'd vote "No". A 75g isn't large enough for either JD or Midas once they're full grown and both species have been known to take out fish larger than themselves. Once they've had a chance to claim a whole tank to themselves, introducing new tankmates has even worse chances for success.

In the event you disregard this advice and toss a JD of the same size in w/ the Midas, and it survives the first day, I'd be inclined to put $10 on the JD, to be collected in a matter of a week or two.

Personally, I'd just plan on keeping the Midas alone until it needs a larger tank. If you go for a 240g at that point, you might toss it in w/ some XL Sevs/Terrors/Acaras/Tx etc. etc.

< not an expert, but have extensive lone JD experience, some exp. w/ other SA Cichlid species...

The Midas would take out the JD lol JD is mean but the Midas is worse. Also a 75gal is big enough for 1 Midas or a pair of JD's. JD's are said to be ok to breed in a 55gal since they get 8". The midas gets bigger at 12-14". I wouldnt try it youll cost a JD its life.

Ive never seen a 1' long Dempsey everywhere ive looked it says they get 8" max thats also from actual owners here and breeders.

Not to argue (much :)) but I'm seeing 10" as often as 8". That said, I grew one to 7.5" in a 20g tank (before I knew better) - so I have one reason to suspect that eveen 10" may not be the maximum...

They (most S.A. cichlid species) also vary a lot from individual to individual, so even in a huge tank, you may have to try a few combinations of fish before you get something other than carnage.

I suspect we can agree on this...

"Si" Yes we can agree on that lol but maybe while measuring that 10" JD you grabbed a deffective measurin instrument lol.

Midas get way to big for a JD to handle and Midas is way to aggressive I would say him/her solo is enough for that tank
