The pics of your betta inspired me to rescue one from Petsmart this morning. I bought a beauty he seems quite happy in his new house.

As for the plants....I have several species that are known to branch profusely...the stargrass, the glosso, the didiplis, even the indica. I do plant them using 1' long tweezers though, which allows closer initial placement of stem plants. I wouldn't plant without them and I highly recommend them. That tank also has 3.6wpg on it.
As for the grass in the front...do you mean on the left hand side? You can see a few wispy strands of dwarf hair grass there, yes. The rest of the foreground is just glossostigma...

Aric - A bubble nest is just a lot of bubbles formed with the betta's "spit." Males make these nests when to prepare for fertilized eggs from a female. He will gather up the eggs and push them up in the nest and will tend to them, making sure that if any fall, he grabs them and puts them back. Many males will do it "just for fun" and is often regarded as a sign of contentment

awwwwwww gorgeous fish!! im glad that yet another person recognizes the fact bettas DO like big tanks. well, kinda. not this one, i guess. my moms betta that looks exactly like yours is in a 29g, and loves to play with the dinosaur bubbler thing. i have 2 female bettas in my 18g, and a male in a divided 10g, and one in a .5 tank.

Beautiful Crowntail!!
Here's another weird situation for you. I have a Betta (not a crowntail) named Flash who does not like my tap water... He prefers store bought spring water.
I can condition my tap water to get it as close to the tank water as possible, but after a couple of days, he starts to get fin rot. When I change it again using store bought water (and only one particular kind), he perks up again and the fin rot disappears. I know this is true cause I've experimented a few times using both just to see if this was the case, and everytime I did a water change with the tap water-finrot...
I have another Betta (a crowntail) who has no problem with my tap water.....

Wow, he's a pretty one!!! I really want to get another betta for my 2+ gallon bowl... hmmm, but where to set it up....
