Hi All,

Thought all was going well with my new addition but he/she doesn't seem to be moving much. When lights are on it stays in same place and will not move (my other plecs hang out all the time and always change places). When lights off it stays there but the other morning i'd noticed he'd moved somewhere.
Any suggestions - I put a couple of bits of potato in there the other day but only my snowball and jari zebra showed interest
I've not seen him eat yet
Any suggestions? I'm going to buy a corgette (zuchini) on the way home tonight.
 
How long have you had it?

A few plecos I have had behaved that way for several months... my clown pleco still acts like that and I've had him for 2 years :)

I would keep an eye it, maybe turn the lights out a few hours earlier and make the room completely dark and try to spot it roaming around.

Clown Pleco

I have an 11 year old Clown Pleco. I acquired him about 6 months ago and he stayed hid all the time until about a month ago and now he shows himself, however if he detects me watching him, he is off and running back to hide under his rock. Up until yesterday, I had a Pearl Gourami with him and they seemed to be very compatible however the Gourami was almost 8 years old and he died last night. A very devastating experience I might add. At any rate I only have a 10 gallon tank and feel like I need to get another fish for company for the clown pleco. Any suggestions? Also what is their life span?
 
i think that tank is a bit on the small side for a plec, but some good choices for plecs are cichlids, some of the smaller ones of course, because you have a tiny tank, maybe kribensis or some of the dwarf cichlids, rams, shell dwellers the list is long. you may even want to go for tetras of some sort, another gourami, flame or something.
 
Clown plecs only get max 3'', so he should be okay. I wouldn't get cichlids for a 10g, and bear in mind that plecos are generally solitary so he doesn't need tank mates. Make sure he has some driftwood, as one of the clown pleco species requires it in their diet.

As for tank mates, I would go peaceful. I like pencil fish, 6 would be comfortable in a 10g, and as mysis suggested, a dwarf gourami would also look very nice with them.
 
You've got wood right? Pannaque Maccus needs wood in his diet, and mine lives almost entirely on malaysian bogwood. He ignores zuchi even when it's poached in garlic <a hearty appetite stimulent>.
 
caught him/her eating!!!!

got back very late / early on the weekend!! since then been all over the tank and hanging off the glass even with the lights on

My Plec Died!

Was eating fine - checked water and everything was at 0. did a watter change for the hell of it.

Took a look at dead fish and there were no parasites visible on body or mouth. Belly was really thin but I had seen him/her eating the day before. No aggresion form my Snowball towards it.

Just must have been a weelk little thing!

hmmmm, if anything this could be an internal parasite maybe, or cyanide poisioning. also for your water changes do you use raw tapwater or r/o water, if you use tapwater you should aeriate it for 12 hours to remove the chlorine.
