I've toyed with the idea of doing a plant tank in one of my 2 gallon or 5 gallon tanks, but I'm at a loss to find a small enough fluorescent fixture that puts out any decent amount of light. The ones I've found are T5, which I know puts out more light for the energy it uses, but does this mean it actually puts out more light, or does this simply mean that it uses less energy while putting out the same amount of light as the bigger bulbs? If the former is the case, how to I convert it to know how much comparative light I'm putting out as compared to a T12 standard bulb? I read in one thread that a 36 inch t12 is 40 watts while a t8 of the same size is only 34 watts, so I assume they put out the same amount of light and T5's just do it more efficiently? If so, then I'll need to get like 2 or 3 9W lighting strips to put over a 5 gallon, right? Anyhow, any info on lighting such a small tank would be helpful, thanks.
