My 9 y/o daughter's science project topic is CO2. We are setting up a planted aquarium with DIY CO2 injection. I was thinking of a 5g tank for simplicity. Is there a recommended minimum tank size for CO2 injection?

Good topic for a little one!!!!!!:)
With a tank of that size, kH°H becomes more of an issue.
I meter CO2 into a 5 but it's done with pressurized and an accurate needle valve.
I would make sure your kH is 3.5°H or higher and use a good needle valve to meter.
As usual, lots of plants and a few fish, 3 - 4 wpg, and I suggest setting it up early to make sure she knows what the tank can handle before proceeding with it in school.
I use an AC MINI HOB on mine and it's very effective.
Let us know how it comes out........very neat!!!

I have a 5.5g tank. The hood will only hold one 15W max incandescent, but I plan on using a 15W screw in CF. I can upgrade the lighting if you think it necessary since this setup will give slightly less than 3wpg. My KH is well above 3.5. I don't want to do pressurized because the DIY aspect of CO2 is what we are after. The original experiment just looked at CO2 production using vinegar. My daughter shares my interest in aquariums and suggested the CO2 idea applied to a "fish tank" using the sugar, yeast and baking soda. Do you run the CO2 in your 5 through the AC mini?

Vinegar and what?? Sodiun Bicarbonate?? Why not just use yeast, sugar and water?? Easier and last longer.

........and of course water. The vinegar experiment had nothing to do with aquariums. It was just a basic experiment to produce CO2 bubbles.
