I am so mad at myself, I was sitting right beside the tank surfing the web and I missed my blue mole shrimp's first molt :argh :sad . I thought he might be getting ready to molt because he is almost always eating, and he didn't eat for the last 2 days. I couldn't have missed the molt by more than 2 minutes. When I looked over at the tank he was rolling over on the bottom under the current to harden his shell faster, and there was an empty shell. His new shell is very pretty and the pictures don't do it justice.

Sorry you missed that. Maybe next time you'll see it. I have no experience with blue mole shrimps, but i like how they look. I have a couple of questions. How long have you had that shrimp and how often do they molt? Also, can you keep them with larger fish or do they have to be in their own tank. Sorry for asking so many questions. They just look so cool...i had to ask.:p
btw,your website looks great!

they're also known as cameroon armoured shrimp, and can atain lengths of up to 1' in jumbo breeds.
they're very peaceful, being filter feeders by nature, and their thick armour protects them from all but the most determined agressors. they're fine in with just about everything except the smallest fry, but do require a mature tank to get their food from (6 months+).

I've had him about 3 months. I have no idea how often they molt, i guess it depends on how much they eat/grow. I keep him in a tank with with Dwarf Frogs and a betta and a bunch of pond snails, but my large pleco never hurt him when he picked him up and carried him out of his cave.

He got a little aggressive just before he molted, stamping his front feet and pushing everything out of his molting corner.
