Well anouther one of my Neons apears to have died. I'm down to 2 out of 6 but I expected deaths. Problem is I can't find the body! I tore the tank appart tonight when I was doing my water changes for the cycle/treatment of Ich. I striped it bare and still couldn't find a body. I have 2 neons 2 white clouds and a male betta left in a 29g. Could one of them have eaten the body? I can't rule out suicide by floor since my floor is mainly clothes LOL but the tank was closed so I doubt it. That and it disapeared after I added the salt so I'm assuming he got stressed and passed away in the tank.

On the bright side my betta is Ich free and swimming arround fine, his fins aren't clamped any more and everyone else seems healthy. I'm treating with a lowered dose of rid ich (for the neons safety) and a lowered dose of salt (again for the neons). Lowered being 1/2 to 3/4 dose of each. temp is hard to gage between the thems I have. but I'ts been arround 80 degrees F. +/- 5 degrees (really need a better therm). So I was thinking of treating until June 1st then adding my carbon back and no longer adding salt with the water changes. I've been treating since the 27th (?) of May so I hope that's enough to kill the Ich off all the way. Thoughts?
Thanks as always,

Neons are super-delicate (so beyond a beginner fish that it's absurd how fast they fly out of the stores...I can't even keep the silly things alive...), so any stress at all from salt, ich treatment, temperature fluctuations, etc, can make them keel over, so it's not surprising to me that you've lost a few...and I'd say your missing body became part of the food chain

Be pretty careful about giving reduced doses... it might bring up resistance issues in the future.... but that is probably the best way to do it for your situation... it might be a worthwhile thing for you to get the treatment that says it is safe for tetras/small or weak fish/scaleless for next time, or better still, a quarantine tank for the next time, so that you can isolate and treat...

Judge when you stop treatment by quitting a few days after there are absolutely NO signs of cysts on any of your fish. A week generally is a good rule for a stopping point there.

You're doin fine :)

Well found the body! It was a suicide by floor after all. Guess I must have left the lid open and he jumped.

Everyone is doing great. Kinda suprising considering the water chemistry is still swinging arround alot. I still haven't hit a full cycle but I'm getting used to taking care of the tank. It's almost secound hand now. I'm not sure if I'm over feeding but I've been pretty carefull on that so far. I'm ich free as of 5/29 so I'm still planning on adding my carbon back into the filter and stopping salt treatment by the first of June. Hopefully I have it beat. My Betta is eating out of my hand and flaring again, he stopped when he got ill, so everything seems back to normal. I'm still seeing Nitrite at .25 ppm every other day and doing a 30% water change to bring it down. I'd really like to add a bottom feeder but with my water conditions I'm waiting.

(edit Orginal post should have said treating since the 17th not 27th. The water temp has also been high 70's to 80 gegrees F. )
