I found an empty shell in the tank and i know it couldnt of been there long or i would have noticed it.Would cherries and cory's eat it?

I doubt they would have been the cause of death, but they could have eaten it as it was decomposing... I would keep an eye on your ammonia and such in case its hidden inside a decoration or something decomposing.
