I had 5 zebra danios and 1 pearl danio in my 10 gallon tank. This morning when I woke up (haven't been near the tank for about a day) I saw that there was 1 zebra missing from the tank. I looked all over the tank, the filter, outside the tank, and under anything where it could be caught and there was no sign of it at all. Was it possible that the other 5 danios made a meal of him over night?

It's possible, look around and under all Deco though

I once lost a barb and couldn't for the life of me find him. I ended up finding him a good 5 feet away from my tank. How? I have no idea, he must have sprung during a water change. Crazy fish.

yeah, danios are known for jumping ship sometimes...

No four legged pet. and he wasn't anywhere around the tank to be found still a day later. One thing I was thinking about though was my routine of feeding. I was feeing them once a day for about 2 minutes in the morning. Was I underfeeing them, should they be fed in small amounts a few times a day. They may have gotten extremely hungry and in such a close space for 6 danios ate one of them.

Once a day feeding is fine. I only feed my danios once a day (and only as much as they can eat in 30 seconds), and generally I skip feeding once or twice a week. No one in the tank has eaten anyone else.

Did you check the intake tube of the filter? It's weird that you haven't even found a carcass/bones at all. Do you have snails in the tank? They are opportunistic and might have eaten the danio if it died.

miracle on 34th street here. After a day of the missing danio, he has turned up this morning and my mind is blown! ONLY thing is that his right gill and all of his fins are pretty ripped up. I have no idea where he was and I don't think I'll ever find out. Unless he was under the gravel which is the only place i didn't check which seems next to impossible. I have witnessed a Christmas miracle, i swear.

I'm glad he surfaced, hopefully he'll make it for you now!

They are tough little buggers, I had a 4 year-old danio jump the tank and spend 45 minutes or so on the floor (at least that long). The cat pointed him out to me and he was dried up and not moving. I threw him back in the water and he revived with some minor scale damage and fin splitting. He recovered completely and is still alive and approaching 5 years of age.
