I may have made a huge mistake. I just added three large ghost shrimp to my platy tank which has a few small fry. Is there any chance of the shrimp feeding on the fry?

I do not think a ghost shrimp can catch a fry of any kind, besides the fact that live-bearer fry hang out on the surface. The do make good scavengers for a fry tank.

hmmm, ghost shrimp are the more "agressive" of the dwarf shrimp, but i still think its pretty unlikely although possible, especially overnight.

I have had the odd ghost shrimp go after little fish a bit but I haven't had any fish deaths because of that I know of - I have heard others say they've had shrimp attack fish fins that were easy to grab... but catching fry might be a different matter. I guess it would depend on these shrimp and how fast/big your fry are. Good luck!

Thanks for all the replies!

Two of the four little ones are big enough I don't think the shrimp could kill them and the other two spend most of their time hidden in the breeding grass in the corners.

So maybe I have nothing to fear, but I like to panic early and get it over with.

I have Ghost Shrimp in a tank with platties. The fish reproduce without any problems. Palaemonetes paludosus, North American Ghost shrimp, do not actively hunt down their food. They are opportunistic feeders, and will take advantage of a weak, sick, or injured animal, if they are able to.
