Mixed substrate

Is it possible to mix gravel and sand for my tank's base?

Would the sand still need to be mixed to release gasses? I'd be doing a 50/50 mix so im assuming that isnt neccessary as the gravel provides enough space.

i have both and put some on one side and some on the other the fish have moved the rock around a bit it aculay looks natural and i dont move it except when normal cleaning of the tank it does move but i dont think much and ive no problems as yet( three months). i think it looks real nice :hang:

i bought some white/black gravel, and a small bag or rock looking if you know what i mean
