Mixing flourite and Flora Base: Good/Bad?

Simple question, the bag of Florabase says not to mix with other substrates, but my LFS has only enough flourite for about 1" of coverage in my 20G tank.

Would mixing the two be bad or just a way for Red Sea to get more folks to buy their product?

yes it should be fine. a lot of people mix substrate.
