I have 2 pregnant mollies I bought yesterday and the assistant at the fish store said both are ready to give birth. Both are in seperate breeding nets.1 of them is so fat she'll sink to the bottom, it's funny. This is my first time having pregnant fish.So i'd like to know when they'll give birth?(ive heard some fish give birth in the morning ect ect)And how do I know theyre about to give birth?(do they have some sort of behavioral ritual?)

Hobby Experience: Parents breed discus,I got my 1st frewshwater tank 6 months ago.
Current Tanks: I have 3 goldfish,4 tiger barbs(2 male 2 female) and 2 mollies(female)
Interests: freshwater fish

well i'm only happy to tell you the joys of molly fry, as i've been there quite a few times myself :)

When the fish go into labour, they wil hover near a plant, or somewhere else safe they can drop their fry off. But seeing as yours are in breeding nets, they won't do that ;)
Keep watching your mollies, and, when they actually give birth, it will seem like they are just pooing. But all of a sudden this so called 'poo' will slip out really quickly, amd you have to keep your eyes peeled if you actually want to witness the these superspeedy births. She may have several in one minute, or drop just a few throughout the day. You never really can tell. But you can estamate when, which will usually be in the morning or/and the evening. Not very convient times! ;)

Anyway, i've babbled on for long enough now. Good luck!

Only time will tell when they're ready to drop fry. A pregnant molly shouldn't be sinking though. Also, a breeding net isn't really the best place to keep pregnant mollies...they need to swim around, and being confined in such a small space could cause too much stress.

good point. they may also eat the fry as there is no where for them to hide.

mollies will be safe....????

but i want to let her out but we have 3 goldfishes that are savages!!!They eat everything(sometimes I think other fishes poop!!!EWWWW)Will the fry be safe with the 3 goldfish & 4 tiger barbs I have?I did also put a small floating plant in the breeder net

No, the fry won't be safe with them. If you want the fry to survive, you could try to catch fry as they are born and then put them in a separate tank. However, your tropical fish shouldn't be in a tank with goldfish...they have different temperature and food requirements...eventually it will effect your fishes' health.
