Hi Y'all

I currently have 4 Lyretail Mollies... 2 Males and 2 Females. As I was perusing the threads I learned that Mollies should be kept in a 1:2 or less male to female ratio.

My question is can I have 2 or 3 males only or does that cause stress to the males as well?

Thanks. :)

i thought you were supposed to have a greater amount of females, so the males cant stress a single female as he would chase different ones, but im no expert :)

yes... i agree. more females the better...

but what if there are no females at all... would a school of males only create a stressful environment.

:)

i would assume it might cause stress as they have nothing to chase ? since my male molly chases the females to his hearts content, but i suppose unless someone else has tried it and posts something, you could see how it goes...

After searching the forum I found that single male in species that do better in the "harem" ratio go "nuts" or "try to get busy with other species." Not good it seems.

I think I will re-home my extra male molly to get to the 1:2 ratio.

:)
