Today I bought a male and a female molly. This is my first time keeping them.

The male does something odd- he goes vertical, with his head facing 90 degrees up towards the top of the tank and his tail straight to the bottom. It almost looks like a swim bladder thing but it's not because when he chooses to swim well he has no problems.. what gives? Is he trying to show off to the female or something? What's wrong with my molly?

I am now starting to think something's wrong here.. it's still happening, more frequently. Could it simply be from the stress of a new tank/being chased by a net several times?

i had a few do this and die within 4 days, what is your water chemistry? what temp are you keeping them at, and how big is the tank?

I know it's not my chemistry- the other mollies were doing fine (they were later moved to another tank and only this male that's acting odd and the female are left.)

The female is showing no signs of anything wrong. To see if it was my water, I left the male in a 40g that has been estasblished for about 4 years- and he still did it.

The two of them (female who's okay and male who's not so great) are in a 10g with a betta. Plenty of shelter.

Is it possible that i've injured him? I had to net him once and it was a real struggle I think he may of gotten knocked around a bit.

What else could it be? He' brand new and I really would like to help here. Do you think it will die down, and he'll return to normal? He floats like this almost all the time but when he chooses to swim he can.

unfortunately i can't get those- no test kit and i have some severe health things right now which means i wont be leaving the house for a few days.

I know its impossible to come up with a solution this way, but assuming that the other one is doing fine it looks like the water isn't an issue- which is why I was asking if the netting could have done it.. or stress on the fish? I'm asking if it's a possiblity these things are happening, and if they go away.

The temperature stays at about 77 F.
