I am after a bit of advice for my brother. He has 3 mollys is his OVERSTOCKED tank.. When I had a look at them today I noticed that the female is losing her colour. I looked closer at all 3:-

Female- Losing her colour and what i could i only describe as dry skin.

Female 2:- Dry skin and a big sliver patch on top of her head

Male- just dry skin

I know it sounds strange to say dry skin but thats what it looks like sort of flaky.

Any ideas.

The "dry skin" is likely dropsy (google it; it is ugly). Your brother has some sick fish; sounds mostly bacterial. I have found that Melafix and Pimafix liquids are the most effective against bacterial and fungal infections; any LFS should have them.

My guess is that he is not doing water changes and, possibly, underfiltering his tank; either by not having enough filtration or by having an inefficient or misused filter.

I have 8gallon tank with 1 ballon molly do you think it might be wise to move the mollys in there to treat.

I must say they do look a bit like the pictures but they do not show any of the other signs.

THanks

Just spoken to my brother and he said female 2 had the silver patch on her head when he brought her???

If it was dropsy how long does it take to kill the fish?
