Monster Energy Drinks vs. Monster Fish Keepers...spread the word!

I was telling a friend of mine about this to get him to sign and pass along to his reptile friends as he is a snake breeder. He said that MED is doing the same to a forum he is in called monstersnakesforum.com

They are hooked up with a group called USARK, its a reptile keeper group but they also fight for exotic fish and other animal groups. Might be a good idea to contact them too.

Signed the petition and posted it to Facebook.... Now all my friends know that I'm a fish nerd. Oh well.

This is what I said:

This is completely ridiculous. NO ONE with eyes or a brian would think that there was any kind of association between a terrible energy drink and and an internet aquaria forum. The "M" logo for MFK looks nothing like the Monster garbage drink logo. Seem's like the Monster Energy Drink Company has too much extra cash on hand if they are attacking small businesses that are in no way competing with them or infringing on their logos. I mean wouldn't it be better for their brand name if they used those funds to do some good (maybe donate to a few charities or cover the medical bills of the people that their drinks have harmed) instead of pointlessly attacking small businesses... What a greedy, terrible, Monster of a corporation.

Hmm, for some reason I cant see the support.monsterfishkeepers.com. But I have been battling a dying modem. But I can get to other sites fine. Weird

Edit: never mind, www.support was the problem. It only works without the www.

How long has MFK been selling shirts and stuff? Does anyone know if one just happened to catch someones eye over at monster energy or if they were just searching for the word monster online looking for another product they could sue over?

this occurred when we applied for the trademarks for merchandise. Th eissue is if they win this one (which is a class 25 for merchandising) they could go after our class 38 (for online forum stuff)

I wanted to take a second to clarify a point that I saw come up. The actual forums are not the issue. Instead, it is that we applied for a merchandising trademark in order to sell his tshirts, hats, keychains, etc. Monster Energy is going after that, most specifically. Since these are free forums, those sales are a big part of how the site is funded, as well as a way that the site promotes at different events (through donated shirts, etc).

The logo is a bone of contention, but the transfer of information through the online forums should be safe.

Please make sure you read through the entire writeup on the blog:

Everyone needs to buy as much merchandise as possible! Wear it with pride (everywhere) and start a protest in front of Monster Energy HQ. ;)
Seriously, it would be nice to see Neo sell out of all M.A.N merchandise. http://store.monsteraquarianetwork.com/

Except that MED is asking for the costs involved to be paid by MFK as well, so if they win, they're not actually out any money. In general though, I agree that donating to charities would be much better publicity and would likely result in increased revenue for them, as opposed to trying to force non-competing groups to stop using an english word and completely dissimilar logo, and facing potential boycotts and bad press as a result.

Hey everyone! Today I worked two back to back shifts (I'm in the process of changing jobs, finishing out my 2 weeks right now) so I haven't had a chance to do much online. I feel like things are still going really well (hope to see at least 2,000 signatures by tomorrow!) but I believe we need to keep the updates rolling on the Change.org site.

If anyone has any ideas for official updates I can post, let me know. I posted a link to a techdirt.com article (about them hassling Rock Art Brewery, makers of Vermonster beer), a Squidoo lens documenting various litigious activities that the makers of Monster energy drinks have engaged in previously, and a link to the Consumerist.com article...what else? Remember, this has to be professional ;) Something interesting to read, and relevant to the cause.

If you haven't bookmarked the petition yet, please do so:

Thanks again to whoever made that link :)
